Mainly six different types of issues and diseases have been reported on NARC G1 Garlic. Two are related to insects while two have to go with fungal diseases. Likewise, one issue is about bacteria and the sixth is related to disorder.
INSECTS ATTACK
Thrips
In most cases, garlic is immune from attacks. Occasionally there is possibility of an attack of Thrips in February-March which can be controlled quite easily. Choose from the following poisons to control thrips.
- Abamectin 400 ml/acre
- Chlorfenapyr 200 ml/acre
- Spintorame 80 ml/acre
- Acephate 300 ml/acre
Repeat the spray 7-10days interval.
Termites
Termites also attack garlic G1 which can be easily control by drenching or flood Fipronil 500 to 1000 ml/acre.
Diseases and Disorder with Remedies
Potash Deficiency (Disorder)
After germination in November and December, yellow strips appear on the leaves as well as on tips. It’s neither a disease nor insect attack; basically it is disorder due to deficiency of Potash in plants. This disorder appears when we use damaged seed for sowing or seed is not treated with fungicides.

Leaf Blight (Fungal)
In February-March leaf blight starts from the leaf tips and the leaves start drying up. It is a fungal disease which, in case of heavy rains, gets intensified. This fungal disease causes the size of the seedlings remain small. As a result, the production of garlic is reduced. It can be controlled by spraying Champion (Copper hydroxide), Nativo and Cabrio Top.

Bulb Rot/Bacterial soft blight (Bacterial)
Bulb rot, Soft Bacterial Blight is caused by a bacterial attack due to high moisture level in the field. Mainly it starts from mid-March to April. Due to bulb rot, the root as well as the bulb is fully destroyed and it causes a pungent smell that is very bad. Basically it is due to early harvesting of crop before maturity. Such crop goes to storage where bacteria is produced and the cycle keeps repeating in the next crop. Spray and drenching Copper base fungicides and bactericides (copper oxychloride + kasugamycine) as well as Fosetyl Aluminum are effective.

Stem Phyllium Leaf Blight (Fungal)
This disease starts in March, strikes from the pointed edges of the leaves and then spreads from the edges to the underside of the leaves. Initially the affected leaves become yellowish and in case of severe disease, the color turns brown. Rainy area, clay soil, humid temperatures and 80% humidity in the air make this disease more invasive. Cure of that disease is only copper base fungicides.

NOTE To cure the above mentioned garlic diseases, use the preventive fungicides at intervals of 7-10 days according to the principle of exchange.
